About me
Pricing an indie game has never been treated as a serious topic — it's often overlooked by digital media marketers and YouTube gamedevs who could have helped both aspiring and experienced indie developers approach pricing more strategically.
Hi, I'm Vivek. Saying "I'm a gamer" feels a bit cliché these days, but to put it plainly: I used to be a gaming content creator. For five years, I literally played games for a living. Yep, you read that right.
Eventually, I shifted to making games — or at least, I tried. But honestly? I got stuck. Or failed, maybe. Two years later, I still haven't released a game. Every time I worked on one, a big question loomed over me:
"How much should I charge for this?"
I'd juggle numbers in my head — $20? Maybe $12? I didn't want to scare off players by charging too much, but I also didn't want to undervalue my work. Tutorials and marketing videos helped me understand how Steam works, but they rarely touched on this one critical piece — pricing — which can make or break your launch.
Fortunately, I didn't sleep in my econ class—that background gave me a solid foundation to dig deeper and eventually develop a few core principles. That's how this theory came to life.
One simple formula I came across was: "Price what a million players are willing to pay." It's a decent start. But I developed it further into something more powerful:
"Price what a million players are willing to pay — not what they're expecting to pay."
Here's what that means: Don't just price based on average market expectations. Instead, create a game experience that gets players excited to pay for it. When you do that, they'll often pay more than even you anticipated.
That's the theory — now here's the pragmatic solution for all of you honest, hardworking developers trying to make a living doing what you love.
You've worked hard: crafting content, writing posts on Reddit, building your wishlist day by day. But if those wishlists don't convert? The algorithm doesn't care — and it might even make you question your whole game dev journey.
That's why I built this tool — to help you price your game scientifically, not emotionally or randomly. No more guessing. No more "$9.99 sounds about right?" decisions that could tank your wishlist conversions or your launch.
This tool gives you a price you can stand behind with confidence.
